Vestas selects Nexans to electrify the future of its onshore wind turbines

Paris, February 16, 2021

Nexans signed a 2-year global supply contract with Vestas Wind Systems to supply approximately one million Windlink® cable kits for turbines for onshore wind farms in Europe, USA, China and Brazil. This latest agreement extends Nexans 'long standing position as Vestas' leading global supplier.

Vestas 'contract demonstrates Nexans' ambition to lead the move to a new world of electrification through low-cost wind energy projects. The low voltage (BT) and medium (MV) cable kits will be installed inside Vestas onshore wind turbines classified in 2, 3 and 4 megawatts (MW). They will provide pre-wired, pre-tested and easy-to-adjust cables for power, control and communication functions within the nacelle, tower and control panels.

The cables that Nexans supplies to Vestas have rubber, thermoplastic or silicone insulation according to their specific application. A significant new development for the latter contract will be the use of totally lead-free materials in the construction of MV cables.

In addition to the performance and reliability of Windlink cables, Vestas also appreciates the comprehensive portfolio and dedicated technical support expertise provided by Nexans.

Windlink cable kits also benefit from supply chain support worldwide, thanks to Nexans' manufacturing presence in Europe, USA, China and Brazil, including a recent capacity extension in Poland and China.
